April 13 is the Laos’ New Year, which is one of the most important festivals for the Lao people. In order to help students feel the warmth of home in a foreign country and promote the cultural integration of China and Laos, on April 12, the School of International Cooperation and Education successfully held the International Cultural Exchange Festival - Laos Day in the 213 room of the main Building in our university.Xu Sheng, member of the Party Committee and vice president of the school, attended the event. Team of the School of International Cooperation and Education, more than 40 Lao students, some teacher representatives and Chinese student representatives also attended the event.

The activity began with the collective New Year's greetings of the Lao students. Students wore Lao national costumes sang and danced with the teachers, laughing and enjoying the scene. Everyone felt the atmosphere of the Laos’ New Year and celebrated the arrival of the New Year. Lao traditional dances and folk music performances allowed all teachers and students to appreciate the charm of Lao culture. In addition to the singing and dancing performances, everyone also experienced the water splashing activity together, and in Laos, splashing water on the New Year is an important way for people to express their joy and pray for the New Year, which means peace and happiness. The water splashing event was very lively, and the students said: "This is the first time to spend the New Year abroad, I feel very different, I am very happy and I am very grateful to the teachers for celebrating with us." After the event, everyone went to the school party school canteen to eat, Lao students prepared their own ingredients, presented delicious Lao specialties to everyone after three hours of careful preparation, and introduced various dishes to the teachers. President Xu said, "This is a chance for us not only tasted Lao food, but also allowed more people to understand the culture and history of Laos, which is very meaningful."

The success of this event not only made the international students feel the warmth of home, enhanced the mutual understanding between students and teachers, but also provided a good platform for cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Laos. Civilizations are colorful because of exchanges and enriched by mutual learning. In the future, the School of International Cooperation and Education will continue to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and draw a new chapter of cultural integration.
